I’m a wife, mother, and stepmother to five teenagers, a Registered Nurse, and a Weight Loss Coach.
I have struggled with my weight, self-esteem, and self-efficacy for years, but I finally found a way to maintainable success and am excited to share what I learned. I’m hoping something here inspires you on your journey (and if it does, please let me know!).
My background is 15+ years as a Registered Nurse, decades of dieting, finding my success through coaching, and then becoming a Certified Nutrition Coach in 2023 with the top nutrition coaching program, Precision Nutrition. I am currently pursing my Master Health Coach Certification with the industry leader, PN.
This was March of 2018. I had cycled up to my highest weight ever. I vividly remember this moment. As I contemplated taking this photo, I realized I never looked at myself in the mirror anymore. I had subconsciously been avoiding looking at my reflection. It truly didn't hit me until then, standing there and taking in what my body looked like was a very hard reality. I notice the blank look on my face every time I see this picture. It speaks volumes to me. I also remember being 100% sure I would end up deleting this picture. (lol, and now it's on the internet!)
I started my weight loss journey like so many other times. A 1000+ calorie deficit and hours at the gym. I would count out the number of weeks on the calendar to reach my goal. Deep down, though, I knew how the story would end. I’ve done this process countless times, and I’ve never been able to keep weight off successfully, but I honestly didn’t know what else to do.
Dieting had caused this binge-restrict cycle that I hadn’t even recognized until after I started coaching. Why was I compelled to overeat when I had “fallen off the wagon”? My only response was that I didn’t have enough willpower, my mindset wasn’t right, and I just couldn’t figure out how to regain it. Why couldn’t I just stick to it? I’d have my groove, and then poof! My groove was gone. It was leaving me clueless as to how to get it back.
My coach educated me on the biological process of weight, which explained why my previous attempts didn’t work—and then walked me through how to approach weight loss differently. Utilizing the same core concepts but learning how to work with my body and understand what it told me. I learned to identify and manage my problematic eating behaviors, as well as years of disordered thinking around dieting that kept me in the yo-yo cycle.
As I approached my goal of losing 60 pounds, I realized I had learned how to create a lifestyle to sustain my success. I had managed to stick to this for three years!! That was unbelievable, and I realized I could do it for the rest of my life. I felt like I found the missing pieces to my story. Which only inspired me to dive deeper into why this time was so different. Reading books, researching online, and listening to podcasts, I started to put it all together. As someone who loves helping others, I got certified as a Nutrition Coach to help others find their missing pieces.
In May 2022, having lost weight, I had a tummy tuck—a surgery I’d wanted for well over a decade. I had just never felt confident I’d keep my results.
This last photo is in September 2022, the first time in my life ever wearing a bikini.
Coaching gave me the skills I was missing to live the life I sincerely wanted. It is one that we all deserve to live without guilt and shame, where we can participate in life and control our food choices. We can manage our thoughts around food, weight, and goals and be present in life.
